GPs’ perceptions of their relationship with the pharmaceutical industry: a qualitative study

Access to Medicines member, Dr. James Larkin co-authored a paper that gives a picture of the methods that pharmaceutical companies use to influence healthcare professionals and healthcare organisations such as professional societies and clinics. For example, participants described the soft influence that 'unrestricted grants' provide to pharmaceutical companies. This can involve influencing the speakers at a conference or ensuring that representatives from the pharmaceutical industry can attend a conference. This helps the pharmaceutical industry shape healthcare discourse in Ireland and in other countries.
